AMG and the HWA team that emerged from AMG, is the most successful team in DTM history. It has won the drivers' title eight times already. Hans Werner Aufrecht's team, whose initials form the company name, is responsible for the engineering of all ten Mercedes-Benz cars competing in the DTM.
HWA is the racing department of AMG and was sifted out after DaimlerChrysler AG had acquired the majority of AMG shares in January, 1999. Head of the company Hans Werner Aufrecht has been active in motorsport for more than 30 years. Aufrecht's team has been the official Mercedes-Benz partner team in the DTM since 1988.
