16th : 1967 NURBURGRING 1000km.
Drivers : Roger ENEVER / Alec POOLE
MGB teams ( Hedges/Vernaeve and Enever/Poole) entered the 84-Hour Marathon de la Route at Nurburgring in 1966, competing against Ferrari, Cortina, Volvo, Porsche, Alfa Romeo, BMW and others. Thirty-seven cars entered ¡°the World¡¯s longest motor race¡±, among them 7 GT class cars and 30 Group 2 Touring cars. The MGB began the race terribly where the car went off the road on two consecutive laps at the same location, yielding significant multiple damages to the car and putting them approximately 42 minutes behind. However, it successfully managed to reach the pit where skilled mechanics were able to perform damage control so that the MGB was able to resume the race at 34th place with 3 more days of racing. By midday the MGB attained 19th place and on the second night MGB moved up to 6th place. The leading Ferrari had its fair share of taking unintentional detours from the road and suffered noticeable damages, while the Volvo dropped in position due to overheating factors and the Porsche had to be disqualified for a violation of race regulations. The racing scene deteriorated as ¡°the heavens opened¡± and rain began to pour, a normal scene at Nurburgring. The condition of the road quickly became slippery, costing the lead for the Ferrari when it skidded off. The MGB took over the lead for a brief period before it too slipped off the road, at which it was put back in fourth place. Then on the final 12 hours, the battle for victory was left only between the MGB and the Cortina - second and first place. Despite numerous setbacks during the entire race, the persistently determined #47 MGB managed to pass the Cortina and was the first to cross the finish line to greet the chequered flag. At the end of the race only 14 cars survived and the MG was the only one in the GT class.
