Press Release
HRT & HSV: Race Relations Set for the Present; Securing the Future!
Skaife Signed Until 2006; Biante Model Cars Renews; "Son-Of-A-Gun" Gains HSV Support!
The "Race Relations" link between Holden Special Vehicles and Holden Racing Team is famous in Australia motoring circles. Hot on the heels of this years Coupe Series 2 launch and HRT 427 production announcement, in continuing to build for the future - announce more key initiatives that will benefit the two organizations in the years to come.
Firstly at HRT’s season launch it was confirmed that 5 time Australian Touring Car Champion Mark Skaife is committed to HRT and HSV until the end of 2006, while Biante Model Cars – a key sponsor of HRT – has renewed its association for another 3 seasons.
Meanwhile Jack Perkins, the 16 year-old son of motor racing legend Larry Perkins will contest this year’s Ford Kartstars kart series with sponsorship from Holden Special Vehicles.
The extension of Skaife’s agreement with HRT and HSV announced on Monday could lead to the multiple Championship and Bathurst winner becoming the most successful driver in Touring Car history. Mark already shares "most titles" accolades with Ian Geoghegan and Dick Johnson and the extension gives him every opportunity to set a new benchmark.
‘I’ve been fortunate now to have driven for Gibson Motorsport in the early 90’s when that team was at its peak and now I’ve been a part of arguably the most successful team ever in HRT and I’m confident we can share in more success". Skaife said.
"I feel I’m driving as well as ever and, this contract should take me to the end of my career. Of course there’s the added benefit of being part of the Product Development Group at Holden Special Vehicles, working on the upcoming HSV models which is another motivating challenge".
Continuity of business partners has been a key ingredient of the Holden Racing Team’s success and, the renewal of Biante Model Car’s sponsorship is very pleasing. Apart from its sponsorship contribution, Biante is a major business partner with HRT and HSV, responsible for the manufacture of more than 20,000 model cars sold annually.
These HSV and HRT models come in 1/18th, 1/43rd and 1/64th scale and Biante will shortly be introducing a half-sized model of Mark Skaife’s racing helmet. Biante Model Cars has been an HRT sponsor since 1999.
Like father, like son although with the Perkins name, it should be like grandfather also! It was Larry’s father that started the Perkins’ name in Motorsport and despite Larry’s recent announcement that he would be scaling down his race driving activities, his son Jack is just starting his.
16 year-old Jack began his kart career in 1998 in the Rookie class but in 2003 stepped up to the Ford Kartstars Series, which is a five round Championship with races in Coffs Harbour, Geelong, Oran Park, Ipswich and Adelaide.
The Ford Kartstars Championship is a "one-make" series, using a controlled Arrow chassis, Rotax engine and Bridgestone tyres. The 45hp Rotax 125cc single cylinder engine is capable of around 130km/h.
It was the year 11 student from Wesley College that approached HSV for sponsorship support, so Jack is already displaying the same independent trait as his father to make his way in his chosen career.
Thanks for reading and happy collecting.
The team from Biante.
