Peter Brock : 1987 Bathurst VL Group A Commodores
After the dramas of February 1987 which saw Holden withdraw its support of HDT Special Vehicles and the associated racing team, Peter Brock was left out in the cold to pick up the pieces ... an uneventful touring car season saw Brock regroup to present two VL Commodores for the annual 1000 km classic at Bathurst, in what was to be the last running of the James Hardie 1000.
Peter Brock was partnered by David Parsons in car #05, whilst the new pairing of Jon Crooke and Peter McLeod were lined up to drive car #10. No longer the Mobil Holden Dealer Team, the cars from Mobil HDT Racing faced stiff opposition from European teams as the 1987 race also formed part of the inaugural World Touring Car Championship.
Brock started the race in the #05 car and was running in sixth place but pitted early at the 31 lap mark, handing over the car to David Parsons ... two laps later, the car was trailing smoke through Reid Park and across the top of the Mountain ... the race was over for '05'. Meanwhile, Peter McLeod was motoring along nicely in the sister #10 car ... at the car's second pitstop, Peter Brock took over the driving duties with the car then placed in sixth position. Ultimately, car #10 crossed the finish line in third place with Brocky receiving a hero's welcome from the crowd at the podium presentation.
The two European Texaco Ford Sierras that crossed the line in first and second place were later disqualified from the race results, thereby granting Peter Brock his ninth - and final - Bathurst touring car enduro win in what were a most amazing turn of events.
Both 1987 Bathurst Mobil HDT cars are now in development in 1:18 scale ... production and availability information will be announced later in the year ... but for now, get on down to your Authorised Biante Stockist to register your interest ... and regular Biante website purchasers might like to add these items to their watchlist.
Both of these model cars will form part of our Peter Brock Collection, and packaging for the #10 car (B182703C) will also feature our Bathurst Winners collection logo.
